Birth Healing

Growing a baby and then giving birth is a huge event, physically and emotionally, even when it goes well.
When it doesn't go well, it can be devastating: birth trauma, physical and emotional issues, and baby loss. Sometimes the trauma is from the pregnancy or your experience of caring for a new baby, whether it's difficulties with feeding, having a baby in special care or with medical issues, and the huge adjustment to life which challenges the strongest of relationships.
You are not alone. What happened to you matters. It is very reasonable to feel angry, broken, sad, full of grief.
There is no hierarchy of pain and trauma. Your emotions and thoughts are valid.
We go through this huge life changing experience, and it is like it doesn't matter. We focus on the baby, without the time, space, or services we need to help us process and heal.
Here you’ll find clear guidance on how to access your medical notes, what to expect from a birth debrief, and the steps you can take to process your experience at your own pace. There is information, practical suggestions, and reassurance to help you heal and then rise, in the way that feels right for you.
" It was really helpful to talk through some things and particularly about things we can ask for that we hadn't even considered."
"My partner and I had an antenatal 1-1 birth coaching session and also a postnatal birth debrief with Cathy. We found both sessions incredibly useful. We went through, step by step, any worries I had about the birth. This was particularly helpful in helping me to decide how I wanted to navigate hospital policy, such as routine cervical examinations and at what stage in the labour was right for us to make the trip to the hospital. My partner found the session very helpful in gaining confidence and knowledge for advocating for me during the labour as a birthing partner."
Understanding your options
If you don't know your options, you don't have any, the saying goes.
Maternity care can feel like a conveyor belt. Midwife appointments are rushed. Options for birth and antenatal care can feel limited. You can be find yourself in a situation where you would like to know more, and have space and time to explore your options.
Not all births go to plan but it is your body, your baby, so every aspect is your decision.
You can put yourself in the best position for everything to go as best as it can, and feel prepared to deal with whatever happens on the day, and feel that you are in control and making the right choices for you.
Research shows that birth trauma is not about how much intervention you had, but more about how kindly you were treated, whether you knew what was going on, or not, and how involved you were in the decision making.

"Catherine is an incredible woman with lots of knowledge to share. Her approach is in a relaxed way that makes you more in control and understand things better."
"Both this call and the previous one, with the follow up email, have been exactly what I wanted when having a bit of a brain boggle working out and trying to be clear on what I want in this pregnancy, so thanks a lot!"
