Chilled Birth Week
How to have a positive, chilled birth in 2026
26 - 31 January 2026
Research shows that a positive birth is not related to the amount of intervention you have, but more, how you were spoken to, how much you knew what was going on, and whether you felt you were involved in the decision making as the birth progressed.
Sometimes birth needs help. Sometimes the situation we are in means we want or need intervention. Birth can feel like you are being swept along in a fast flowing, scary river, with no branches to hold on to. Or it can feel like you are going down the same river, but in a canoe with expert rowers, who can advise you, but also listen to your directions.
Currently more than half of pregnant people will not go into labour themselves. Only 4 in 10 will have a 'spontaneous birth', i.e. not a caesarean birth or a birth assisted by forceps (metal tongs) or ventouse (vacuum suction). For first timers, it is only 3 in 10.
There are lots of reasons for this. Some of which can't be changed. But there are some actions you can take to reduce your chance of interventions, without increasing the risks to baby.
There are things you can do to help you feel in control and skilled up for a positive birth, whatever happens, however the river flows.
I know there are steps you can take to make it easier for yourself, because my many clients have done it.
This week I'm holding a 'Chilled Birth Week', like a free mini antenatal class, with the aim of helping you have a positive, chilled birth whatever happens.
Each day, Monday - Friday, I will share an evidence based way to prepare for a positive birth in the current maternity system.
